I arrived in Japan in 1991, and began my career in translation in 1994.
The first thing that I learned as an apprentice translator, in the International Department of a trading company in Tokyo, was that translating is not just about replacing Japanese words with English words on a page. It’s about speaking on someone’s behalf; passing on a message that the writer would have communicated directly if only he or she spoke the same language as the other person. That’s why it takes more than just an understanding of the written words.
At Blue-J, we approach every translation in this way:
(1) We look behind the words to understand what the writer really wants to say;
(2) We choose the words and expressions that communicate to the reader what that the writer originally intended; and
(3) We present the message in a way that establishes a connection between the reader and the writer.
At Blue-J, we believe that clear, correct language inspires confidence in the reader, and adds power to the content of your message. We can help you to get that message across, whether you are speaking to customers, business partners, overseas employees, investors, or other stakeholders.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about how Blue-J can add value to your communication process.
